In this Insurance Institute of London (IIL) webinar, Dame Deirdre Hutton will discuss the failure of Thomas Cook, how it was handled, what the main lessons were and how this is an exemplar of the challenges that can face regulators.
Dame Deirdre Hutton, Formerly Chair (2009 – 2020) of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
During her eleven years at the helm of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Dame Deirdre saw the time bracketed by two substantial crises – first the explosion of the Icelandic volcano in 2010, and then the demise of Thomas Cook in 2019.
Dame Deirdre will explain why the handling the first crisis was so much less successful than the second, what the CAA learned from volcanic ash in 2010 and how the CAA has changed as a consequence. She will also illustrate how regulators work; how they can improve; what can be learnt; and what the role of leadership is in a crisis.
