London Phoenix Orchestra’s 2018-19 season opens in grand style on Tuesday 30th October at St John’s, Smith Square with a journey to the colourful orient, via old London Town and the gardens of Andalusia. After Elgar’s boisterous opener, “Cockaigne”, pianist Clara Rodriguez joins the orchestra for de Falla’s impressionistic “Nights in the Gardens of Spain”. The concert is rounded off with Rimsky-Korsakov’s enduringly popular “Scheherezade”. Do join us for what promises to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Starting out as The Insurance Orchestra, the London Phoenix Orchestra was founded in 1924 by Harold Rawlinson to provide members of the insurance industry with an opportunity to meet regularly and enjoy playing music together. This fundamental enthusiasm for music and a friendly ethos remains at the heart of the orchestra’s purpose to this day. Today players are drawn from all backgrounds, not just the insurance industry, and include music students.
The concert starts at 7:30pm and additional tickets can be purchased directly from the St John’s Box Office (Smith Square, London, SW1P 3HA, 020 7222 1061). You can also book online at www.sjss.org.uk.
