Claims Foundation Programme

The Claims Foundation Programme will provide delegates with a greater understanding of how the claims team forms part of the overall business, as well as providing guidance on technical claims handling at an individual claim level.


This programme is aimed at those handling claims who have up to three years’ experience of insurance. In addition to the formal 15 hours commitment, there will also be off-programme involvement in the pre-work activities.

This programme is open to LMA member only.

Programme details

Date: 02 February – 25 May 2021
Programme: The programme will run over three months, consisting eight expert-led live virtual modules and online learning
Online platform: Sessions will be hosted via Zoom, joining details will be sent 24 hours prior to the event
Fee: £1,500 + VAT per delegate
Pre/Post Work: There will be online learning for each module.

Claims Foundation Programme

About the programme

The ability to make a claim on an insurance policy is the promise made by insurers when they sell their product, irrespective of the class of business and whether the product is insurance or reinsurance. The service provided at the point of a claim is what the client remembers, and whilst keeping customers at the centre of the business is important, paying every claim is not an obvious path to business success.

The programme will provide opportunities for delegates to learn about and discuss both the bigger picture concepts of how and where claims fit into the wider organisation, as well as considering matters that impact on day-to-day claims handling, such as expert management, reserving, strategic claims handling and managing others’ expectations.

The programme will run over three months, consisting of eight expert-led live virtual modules and online learning.

Upon completion of the programme delegates will return to their role able to:

  • explain how the claims team uses outside resource to assist with its work
  • explain how accurate data assists with the work of the claims team
  • identify the reasons for disputes and explain how they might be resolved
  • describe how regulation both in the UK and abroad impacts on day to day claims handling.

Please note that in order to successfully complete the programme, delegates must actively participate in all the sessions.

The programme will be run by Charlotte Warr from Sarnia Training. Charlotte’s career has taken her from roles such as syndicate head of claims to running her own training and consulting company working with clients in the UK and around the world.
