The Cologne Research Centre for Reinsurance analyses the latest developments in the reinsurance market and, where appropriate, monitors these through projects. In this, it links the research activities of the Institute of Insurance with practices in the reinsurance sector. Organising and carrying out the annual Cologne Reinsurance Symposium and the Annual Meeting of the Sponsoring Group Reinsurance are also part of the mission of the Research Centre.
Under the direction of Prof. Materne, there are eight research assistants employed at the Cologne Research Centre for Reinsurance. Financing is provided entirely through third-party funding by the Sponsoring Group Reinsurance, currently with the participation of 91 reinsurers and reinsurance-oriented enterprises.
Combining instruction and research, students pursuing the Bachelor’s degree with the three-semester concentration in reinsurance, together with students pursuing the Master’s degree, are exposed to a broad spectrum of topics relating to the reinsurance sector, with a variety of excursions, lectures by instructors and guest lectures.
