In this Insurance Institute of London (IIL) property webinar, Iain Cox and Tom Roche will explore the current building regulations, and proposed changes to understand their outcomes and limitations in respect to industrial and commercial buildings in the UK.
Fire safety is now firmly on the agenda and recent changes have been implemented across Great Britain impacting the provision of fire protection in selected buildings. Yet there are still misunderstandings over which buildings have guidance for active forms of fire protection across the UK.
Recent fire events have also raised questions in respect to the outcomes delivered by building regulations and their associated guidance. Surveys highlight that business owners are not clear on these items, leading to disparities when considering actions to protect their properties and revenues.
Further reviews of regulatory guidance are needed and are ongoing. There are a series of research streams that are being explored. These offer opportunities for future change to positively impact this situation but require data, evidence, and concerted action.
