Visit to Two Temple Place (10:45am)

Lime Street Ward Club invites its members to visit Two Temple Place. This small house was built in 1895 as a private residence for one of the world’s wealthiest men, William Waldorf Astor who is renowned for New York Grand Hotels and apartment blocks and in the UK the enhancement of Cliveden.

It was originally built as the headquarters for the Astor Estate and a private retreat for Astor himself. Sir John Betjeman said “it is a little masterpiece”. This building is not generally open to the public but Lime Street Ward Club has organised a personal guided tour of the building which will be hosting an exhibition of works by John Ruskin. The tour will concentrate on the building; including some beautiful carvings and amazing stained glass and a fascinating staircase.

You will be free to wander round the exhibition after our tour or return in the afternoon, after lunch.

The John Ruskin (1819-1900) exhibition marks the bicentenary of his birth bringing together over 190 items of his work under the title of “The Power of Seeing” including works from the Sheffield’s Guild of St George Ruskin Collection, the Ashmolean and many others.

This event requires membership. Please visit the organiser's website for more information.
