Insurance policies purposely designed to cover cyber risk are increasing. However, concerns about silent cyber exposure are growing, with potential losses due to silent coverage from insurance policies not specifically designed to cover cyber risk.

Silent cyber, or the potential to have cyber exposures in insurance policies where cyber may or may not be covered, presents additional challenges for (re)insurers in managing cyber risk. The threat of non-affirmative cyber looms across all lines of business, from property to general liability, errors and omissions (E&O), directors and officers (D&O), and other lines, with the possibilities that in certain instances, multiple policies could all be exposed to silent cyber claims from the same incident.
