PICG: California Earthquake Claims Handling Certification 2026

The LMA Property Insurance Claims Group (PICG) presents California Earthquake Claims Handling Certification.

This course satisfies the California regulatory requirements for earthquake claims handling certification that is required every three years for all insurance professionals who handle earthquake claims in California.

This presentation will provide knowledge of earthquake fundamentals, how earthquakes impact various building types, building codes, and earthquake repairs. This seminar presents evaluation of earthquake damage to a wide range of structure types, but with a focus on mid- and high-rise concrete structures; properties likely to lead to large, complex claims.

The course will also cover all the required course material mandated by the California Department of Insurance, including:

• The California Fair Claims Settlement Practices Regulations
• Determination of the scope of loss
• Loss estimation techniques
• Determination of necessity for engineer or expert input
• Assessment of damage to concrete surfaces and foundations
• Subsequent discovery of earthquake damage
• Programmes designed to assist earthquake victims

Certificates of completion will be emailed to all participants following the session.
