London’s Air Ambulance – challenges of operations

22 March 2018

London, United Kingdom
London's Air Ambulance - challenges of operations

In this IIL aviation lecture Charles Newitt will talk about the role and function of London’s Air Ambulance (LAA) as one of the emergency services supporting London on a daily basis and during major incidents. He will also talk about some of the challenges in managing risk and safety of operating a helicopter in central London and the training involved.

Few understand the role of LAA or that it is a Charity. By explaining the role of their trauma teams, members will understand not only what they do, but the challenges in getting to the side of a patient in the quickest possible time safely. As London develops, getting a helicopter to the scene is becoming increasingly difficult, what are the risks, how do they manage them and how do they train for it. Looking into the future, how might one deliver this through better medical technology or new transport developments.

By the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into:

-The role and function of LAA in supporting London
-The risks and challenges of operating aviation in central London
-A look to the future – what could it look like?

Speaker Bio:
Charles is the charity’s Air Operations Certificate (AOC) Accountable Manager and assumes responsibility for all aspects of LAA’s aviation and helipad operations.

Chair:
Stephen Palles-Clarke, Corporate and Commercial Executive Director, United Insurance Brokers.
