In this IIL aviation webinar, Al Seymour talks about the different organisations and levels of scrutiny for aircraft production and operation and will focus on the broad ‘amateur builder and operator’ community.

Description

Globally, the amateur home-built aircraft community is very large. There are widely varying standards of build quality, ranging from remarkable and innovative, to dangerous. Governance of engineering checks and test flying also varies widely.

Cases studies will be discussed to highlight where the risks are and who ‘owns’ them. Consideration of risks to life and property will be discussed and where potential exists to identify them early and mitigate them as the unforeseen impacts of even the smallest errors can mount up to result in dramatic outcomes that are costly in all respects.

Learning objectives

  • How an amateur-built aircraft differs from one that is manufactured
  • How the ownership of risk differs across the global community
  • The best ways to identify and mitigate risks through robust, auditable tests and operational activity
