In this IIL property investors webinar, Daniel Watson will talk about how flood risk data can be used to help manage risks and allow flood cover to be provided in areas where there are genuine flood risk concerns.
In this session, using two case studies, Daniel will talk about how sites that have been flagged as ‘high risk’ or which have previously experienced flooding can work to reduce exposure to a level that enables flood cover to be provided.
The first case study involves a site with no claim history, but which flood mapping indicates is in a high flood risk area. Through use of flood model outputs and historic data it was however possible to accurately define the risk and propose strategies for how this could then be managed through the operation of the site.
The second case study involves a site that was, based on mapping, believed to be low risk, but where repeated flooding has resulted in a series of claims. In this instance investigations into the design and construction of the site drainage identified deficiencies. Remedial work can now therefore be planned to address the root cause of the problem.
