February marks LGBT+ History Month in the UK, and Lloyd’s Inclusion Pride and Allies are pleased to host It’s a really, really Queer Britain, which will look at queer history, resistance, progress and liberation within LGBT+ communities.

The word “queer” has been used in Britain for almost 500 years, but we’ve been around a lot longer. Nowadays it’s a reclaimed and celebratory term that connects with the story of Queer Britain. It’s the tale of the great and good of this country, from kings and queens, to the everyday folk in more humble posts that keep society moving.

This is a narrative of resistance, progress and liberation. This is the history of our diverse LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and more) communities. You will encounter remarkable individuals that reveal stories of diverse gender and sexual identities who sometimes tried to conceal themselves from history, and at other times flaunted what they had, but at all times you’ll find that it’s a really, really queer history.

About the speaker

Dan Vo is the Marketing Manager of Queer Britain, the UK’s first LGBT+ museum. He founded the LGBT+ tours at the V&A and has developed LGBT+ programming for the National Gallery, National Galleries Scotland, National Museum Wales and Fitzwilliam Museum. He is the Project Manager of the Queer Heritage and Collections Network and teaches at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. He is also patron of LGBT+ History Month.
