
The world’s first blockchain launched in January 2009 as Bitcoin. Since then, business use cases beyond bitcoin have been developed, as businesses leverage distributed ledger technology. In 2016 a consortium of insurance and reinsurance companies took tentative steps in building a blockchain proof of concept (PoC) and B3i was formed. During 2017 further pilots were investigated and this year we have seen full production distributed ledger platforms launched.
