Audience
This programme is open to anyone working at a Lloyd’s managing/members’ agent in a non-actuarial role.
The course would be of particular benefit to those involved in syndicate portfolio management, underwriting, claims, finance, risk management and back office support functions.
About the programme
The actuarial function plays an important and influential role in an organisation. Their activities cross many other business functions but, for ‘non-actuaries’, are often deemed difficult to comprehend. This one-day, foundation level programme, designed for people working in business support functions, aims to de-mystify the role of the actuary and the work of the actuarial team. The programme will also provide guidance to delegates on how they can work more effectively with actuaries on a day-to-day basis.
Attendees will learn about:
• the unique nature of insurance
• the history of actuaries in Lloyd’s
• the actuarial approach and cycle
• interacting with actuaries by job function
• Lloyd’s unique capital structure and why insurers need capital
• different approaches to risk-based capital
• an overview of Solvency II
• an introduction to business planning
• the components of technical price
• estimating loss costs and pricing models
• introduction to Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) and reserving and the role of the claims and reinsurance functions.
It is an interactive and practical course. Each module has a guest speaker who is a senior actuary in the market and will talk about the different aspects of their role and how this links with other departments within their company.
