In this IIL financial planning webinar, to mark the first-ever UK-wide Power of Attorney Day, Helen Walker, Chief Executive of Carers UK, discusses the importance of power of attorney and how improved understanding and take-up could benefit the lives and financial planning of clients and wider stakeholders.
Carers UK, in partnership with Standard Life, are holding the first-ever UK-wide Power of Attorney Day on Wednesday, 22 April 2026. Despite the importance of powers of attorney, many people delay setting them up due to myths and misconceptions about what they are and how they work. Carers UK’s multi-year campaign will tackle these misunderstandings and highlight how having power of attorney can make a vital difference, particularly for the 5.8 million unpaid carers across the UK who support someone who is seriously ill, older, or disabled.
In this seminar, Helen discusses the objectives of the campaign, highlights the importance of the power of attorney for proper life planning, and explains how CII members can support in raising awareness and uptake of the power of attorney.
