In this IIL marine and energy webinar, Daniel Ng and Tom Walters walk through a scenario of a cyber-attack on shipping operations to give participants an insight into how an attack typically unfolds.
Despite the increasing frequency and profile of cyber-attacks in the shipping sector, most shipping professionals have never experienced a cyber incident. Most assume the remediating actions are mainly technical, but in reality, there are commercial, operational, technological, legal, and insurance decisions to be made rapidly as the incident unfolds.
A typical cyber-attack on shipping operations can develop very quickly. However, most ship owners and operators are unprepared for such an eventuality despite the IMO 2021 being in force for a year, requiring that fleet operators have incorporated cyber risk management into their safety management systems.
