When the reinsurance market turned following Hurricane Ian in 2022, a new generation of start-up reinsurers was anticipated, but failed to materialise. Despite the efforts of many, only a handful were successful in raising capital and launching a business. Why did OAK Global succeed, where others failed? Following the launch of OAK Global’s second syndicate less than a year after its launch, it seems it is already on pace to prove that ‘from little acorns mighty oaks grow’. But what is the difference between the very limited class of 2022, vs. the class of 1992, and the classes of the 1800s and 1900s?
