Spring Concert

Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto is renowned as one of his most cheerful works, (it reached No. 23 in Classic FM’s Hall of Fame in 2022). Our performance will feature homegrown Phoenix Orchestra talent, in the form of Stephen Smithers, who renounces his usual position in the viola section to play the solo piano part.

The melodies continue in two works by Czech composers: Smetana’s vigorous “Overture to The Bartered Bride” and Dvořák’s “Sixth Symphony”, one of the first pieces to bring this great composer’s music to an international audience.
