The Master has been able to arrange a Virtual Talk about Florence Nightingale which will be given by Julie Chandler, a very experienced London Blue Badge, City of London and City of Westminster Guide. Julie has been working in Partnership with the Florence Nightingale Museum and with one of her Guiding colleagues on the Florence Nightingale’s London Walking Tour. Due to COVID 19 these are currently restricted.
To give us a flavour of ‘The Lady with the Lamp’ Julie’s fully illustrated talk will last about 50-60 minutes after which she is happy to take questions. Her talk is entitled: Florence Nightingale: What She Was and What She Was Not. The title is a play on Florence’s famous book – Notes on Nursing: What it is and what it is not.
Julie will explain that there is so much more to Florence than the two years she spent tending the sick and wounded in the Crimean War of the 1850s. She will explore Florence’s life most of which was spent in London and we will discover from her what ‘The Lady of the Lamp’ was and what she was not, including connections she had with the City of London.
I hope you will join and enjoy this Virtual talk by Julie before we hopefully return at the end of June to ‘Live’ events, the first being our Civic Lunch.
