In this IIL educational CPD visit, attendees can learn how the Thames Barrier was designed, built and works.
The Thames Barrier is one of the largest movable flood barriers in the world. The Thames Barrier Information Centre is a small exhibition where you can learn about the construction of the Thames Barrier and how it works. There is a working model of the Thames Barrier and virtual technical tour along with other films and displays about flooding, the environment and wildlife of the Thames.
Attendees are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from the venue. By tube: North Greenwich (Jubilee Line) – 2 miles away. By rail: Charlton station – 1 mile away
Please note there is no access onto the Barrier due to security reasons.
Please note that at the end of the talk, the tour guide will take the group near the pier, so there are some steps to reach the shoreline.
Places on visits are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
A fee will be charged for all visits. Visit fees are non-refundable if cancelled.
