The time is now to apply for the Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards 2018! Applications will be accepted from August 2018 to late September 2018.

For those who didn’t know the annual Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards recognise and celebrate the work of individuals in the market who fundraise or volunteer in their spare time, or who have been supported by a charity themselves.

Donations are given to charities supported by individuals working in the market in recognition of their fundraising and voluntary work. Awards are also made to charities that have given invaluable support to those in the market whose lives have been affected by difficult circumstances. This year, the amount of the award has been doubled from £2,000 to £4,000. This reflects the value Lloyd’s Charities Trust places on the individuals who benefit their communities.

Since the initiative was launched in 2007, over £650,000 has been donated to 300 charities.

The Lime Street Guide team would urge anyone in the market who is involved in charitable work or knows someone who is to apply for the awards. The award is an excellent way to celebrate and receive donations for worthy causes and continues Lloyd’s fine tradition of support for charity.

To apply, you must be a permanent employee working in the Lloyd’s market (employed by managing or members’ agents, brokers, coverholders, the Corporation, LMA or LIIBA) on the date the application is made and when the award is announced. Applicants also need to demonstrate direct engagement with their nominated charity during the past 12 months, for example, as a volunteer, fundraiser or beneficiary of services provided.

Award winners are notified November 2018. The annual awards ceremony is held in December.

Last year on 14th December 2017 in the Adam Room at Lloyd’s, Lloyd’s Market Charity Awards announced its award winners (pictured above).

At the ceremony, 31 winners were feted: Guy Carpenter went from zero winners in 2016 to six winners in 2017. Other companies scored as well: Advent and Hampden snagged two winners each; MS Amlin three winners; and four winners from Corporation of Lloyd’s. Click to download the full list of award winners.

Each year charitable assistance is offered to a wide range of different causes, yet two charities received financial support both in 2016 and 2017: Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity, which helps cure children with rare and complex conditions; and Aspire, which helps those paralysed by spinal cord injuries.

Some of the stories from previous winners can only be described as heart-warming. Benjamin Pritchard, award-winner supported by Aspire in 2017 said “On 10 September 2016 my life was turned upside down by a cycling accident. Aspire played a pivotal role throughout my rehabilitation and allowed me to return to the market in a short space of time. I’m very grateful Lloyd’s Charities Trust recognised Aspire’s incredible work. The money provided will aid others, as it did me, during a time of personal adversity.”
