DESCRIPTION:Volunteering activity day at Spitalfields City Farm\nJoin us for a community volunteering and teambuilding day\, allowing you to connect with nature and other IIL members in a fun\, friendly and welcoming environment! \nDescription\nIn the fast-paced hustle and bustle of City life\, stopping\, spending time in nature\, and helping local community projects around you is becoming increasingly important. \nJust a short journey from EC3 lies Spitalfields City Farm\, a charity which – despite being so close to the Square Mile – is in one of the most densely-populated wards of Tower Hamlets with little access to open spaces. The farm works with a vibrant and multicultural community to provide educational opportunities to empower people to gain new skills and confidence. \nThis is a chance for our members to visit the farm as a small group\, learn about the important work they do\, and participate in voluntary community/team-building activities based around farmyard tasks which will be vital in giving back to the local community. \nWhy you should attend:\n\nGet to know other members in a relaxed and friendly environment\nHelp out by giving back to a valuable charitable project\, central to the communities close to the City\nEnjoy connecting with nature in an urban oasis of calm\, surrounded by plants and animals\nLearn useful new skills – no previous experience needed\n\nFull arrival instructions and briefing materials will be sent to you before the event. \nWhat to expect:\nActivities will depend on the season and the flexible nature of farm life. There will be a mix of gardening\, DIY\, farmyard tasks and of course…animal interaction! \nSample activities may include: \n\nSowing seeds and planting bulbs\nPruning fruit trees and harvesting crops\nAnimal grooming and feeding\nMucking out the paddocks and stables\nGeneral repairs and DIY\nPainting fences and varnishing picnic tables\n\nThe session will end with an al fresco lunch (weather permitting!) at the Rosebery Teahut. \nAll activities are supervised\, so no experience is needed\, but please let us know of any medical conditions before the day so activities can be planned accordingly. \nWhat to wear/bring:\nVolunteers should wear sturdy shoes and dress in layers\, ready for all weather conditions. Trousers and long-sleeved tops are advisable.
