SUMMARY:Acting sustainably in space and the critical role of insurance
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the Old Library at Lloyd’s to hear from Nick Shave as he provides an overview of the current orbital space environment\, the critical need for responsible space operations\, and how Astroscale is working on solutions to clear up space debris. \nDescription\nWe rely on space technology in many areas of our lives – satellites help keep us safe\, connected\, and informed\, but with over 5\,000 active satellites already in space and more and more being launched every year\, the threat of orbital congestion and space debris is growing. If a near-miss becomes a collision\, it can produce large quantities of orbital debris that remain a hazard for centuries. Government and industry recognise that safe\, affordable\, and reliable in-orbit servicing is necessary to solve the problem. \nAstroscale is the first private company with a vision to secure the safe and sustainable development of space for the benefit of future generations. It is approaching the space sustainability challenge in three ways: developing new technologies with innovative capabilities to approach\, inspect and rendezvous with objects in space; influencing policy to guide responsible behaviour in space\, and building a business case for commercial satellite operators that demonstrates the cost-effective incentives for their business. \nWith four in-orbit satellite service lines\, Astroscale is developing solutions to remove commercial satellites and large debris orbits in low earth orbit\, extend the life of geostationary satellites\, and inspect objects in space across all orbits. \nLearning objectives\n\nThe rapid growth of the space industry to a $1 trillion market over the next 10 years\nThe current situation of crowded orbits and why urgent action is required\nWhat technologies and services are being developed to address the problem\nHow the insurance industry needs to play a key role\n\nSpeakers\n\nNick Shave FRAeS\, Managing Director\, Astroscale Limited\nChair: Janette Sunshine ACII\, Executive Director\, WTW.\n\n \n\n \n Share this event with your colleagues:\n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Facebook\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Twitter\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n LinkedIn\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Email\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Visit Event Website
