SUMMARY:LMA Marine Forum: Illegal fishing and insurers - a Government briefing
DESCRIPTION:The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is an executive non-departmental public body in the United Kingdom established under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. The MMO are a key regulator of the seas and oceans (including fisheries) within the European Commission and the High Seas. \nIllegal\, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is a broad term that captures a wide variety of fishing activity. IUU refers to activities that contravene national laws and regulations\, the conservation and management measures of Regional Fishery Management Organisations (RFMOs) and\, where relevant\, international law. IUU fishing plunders the ocean\, weakens economies\, depletes fish stocks\, and undermines conservation and management efforts and it is often associated with organized crime. \nThe IUU team from the MMO will focus on the insurance aspects\, and will be providing further guidance to marine insurers on risks that they may not be aware of\, being mindful that any support to IUU\, including providing insurance to suspected IUU vessels\, is an offence under both European and UK Law. \nThe session will comprise of both a short presentation and Q&A. Additionally\, the team are keen to provide the opportunity to discuss specific cases if required on a one to one basis\, either at the event or by providing insurers with a contact to talk issues through and to offer advice. \n \n\n \n Share this event with your colleagues:\n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Facebook\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Twitter\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n LinkedIn\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Email\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Visit Event Website
