SUMMARY:Lloyd's Choir - Widow's Mite Charity Concert
DESCRIPTION:Lloyd’s Choir Today \n\n\nLloyd’s Choir is a vibrant group of around 60 mixed voices. Founded in 1922\, the choir’s roots are in Lloyd’s of London and the insurance market where many of the members work\, but it draws singers from across the City’s financial community and beyond. Under Jacques Cohen’s direction since 1995\, the choir has grown in stature and accomplishment. Its repertoire is wide ranging\, from early polyphony to contemporary styles. Recent orchestral concert highlights include performances of the Haydn Nelson Mass\, the great requiems of Brahms and Mozart\, and reprise of Jacques Cohen’s Passion Fragment – a work commissioned by and dedicated to Lloyd’s Choir which was premiered in 2009. Many of the choir’s performances are a cappella and notable recent works include Bach’s motet Jesu\, meine Freude and the Vaughan Williams Mass in G minor for double choir. \nJoining Lloyd’s Choir \nWe are always pleased to welcome new singers. We do not hold formal auditions\, but we offer new members a trial period during which they may be asked to complete some simple vocal exercises. Because of the relatively short rehearsal periods\, good sight reading skills are required and members are expected to do extra private study as necessary. Rehearsals normally take place on Monday lunchtimes from 1.05 pm to 2.15 pm at St. Katharine Cree\, Leadenhall Street\, with extra rehearsals immediately before a concert. \n\n \n\n \n Share this event with your colleagues:\n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Facebook\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Twitter\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n LinkedIn\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Email\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Visit Event Website
