SUMMARY:Joint Hull Committee Forum 2025: Engines\, Machinery Claims and the Future Risks of Cleaner Fuels
DESCRIPTION:Joint Hull Committee Forum 2025\nThis is an invitation to attend the first Joint Hull Committee (JHC) Forum of the year\, which will take place on Tuesday 25 March 2025 in the Lloyd’s Old Library. \nThis forum will provide valuable insights into marine machinery claims. Two seasoned Chief Engineers from ABL will break down how ship engines work\, the common causes of machinery damage claims and real-world case studies. \nThe talk will also explore how the shift to cleaner fuels such as liquefied natural gas (LNG)\, methanol and ammonia introduce new risks that could shape future claims. Whether you’re an underwriter\, broker or simply keen to expand your technical knowledge\, this is a great opportunity to explore the evolving landscape of marine hull claims. \nSpeakers\n\nMark McGurran\, Global Managing Director\, Maritime\, ABL: With over 25 years of experience in the maritime industry\, Mark has spent more than 15 years working in marine consulting\, including business leadership roles in marine casualty investigation and marine warranty services for international consultancy firms. He holds a Class 1 UK Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer\, Unlimited) and has 12 years of seagoing experience on container\, passenger\, high-speed and offshore vessels\, serving in all ranks up to Chief Engineer\, including technical management roles. Mark has particular expertise in marine casualty investigations\, covering groundings\, machinery damage\, collisions\, total losses\, fires and offshore asset damage. He has provided expert evidence on many of these matters in the High Court and arbitration proceedings.\nPaul Hill\, Global Technical Director\, Maritime\, ABL: Paul is a Chartered Engineer with a First Class Certificate of Competency as a Marine Engineer. After 20 years at sea\, he became a surveyor in 2009 with BMT/Salvage Association\, progressing through the ranks with ABL Group to Chief Surveyor and then Managing Director for Europe and Africa in 2016. For the past 16 years\, Paul has provided his expertise to hull and machinery insurers and protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs\, specialising in the failures of slow and medium speed engines\, turbochargers\, propellers\, shafts\, stern tubes\, rudders\, thrusters and deck cranes\, as well as damage from groundings\, flooding and fires.\n\nDue to restricted numbers\, if you register and subsequently are unable to attend\, please email jackie.clark@lmalloyds.com. \nAudience\nThis event is open to anyone with an interest in the marine hull class of business. \n \n\n \n Share this event with your colleagues:\n \n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Facebook\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Twitter\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n LinkedIn\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Email\n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Visit Event Website
