DESCRIPTION:In this IIL London Market lecture Mark Gleeson will explain how the Information Commissioner approaches the investigation and resolution of data breaches. \nThe Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is undertaking proactive\, as well as reactive\, investigations into the privacy practices of a wide range of organisations. The ICO has issued heavy penalties against organisations breaching these civil rules and branded them as ‘crooks’ and ‘criminals’. \nProposed changes to the law mean that individual directors\, as we as their organisations\, could each face penalties of £500\,000. This talk will provide practical\, legal and tactical advice on managing ICO investigations into breaches of the current law.
