SUMMARY:Changing landscape of global agriculture reinsurance
DESCRIPTION:In this IIL reinsurance lecture Simon Ellis will discuss how Agriculture Reinsurance as evolved to become integral to both food security and political/corporate/financial stability\, in many key territories across the world where catastrophe risk is ever present. \nSimon will start his lecture by considering the changing landscape in which Global Agriculture Reinsurance is playing a key role and will consider such tops as global population growth and national concentrations\, the evolution in eating habits and diets\, catastrophe risk and climate change. \nHe will then devote a section to politics\, touch on the UN\, but then focus on national government involvement in food security and the influence of farmer lobbies in key territories and how/where this has nurtured/continues to nurture the rise of subsidy based/actuarially sound agricultural insurance and reinsurance. He will finally devote a section on how Agricultural Reinsurance has evolved/continues to evolve in support of those (many) countries where Actuarial Agriculture Insurance is practiced. \nBy the end of this lecture members would have gained an insight into: \n • The changing global landscape in which Agricultural Reinsurance is evolving\n • The political imperatives driving the evolution of Agricultural Reinsurance around the world\n • How Agricultural Reinsurance is evolving to meet those needs \nSpeaker Bio:\nAfter a Short Service Commission in the Royal Navy\, Simon joined Guy Carpenter in 1986. In his 30 years with the company\, Simon has worked to develop and service business in North America\, Australia and India.
