Despite a variety of challenges facing the Latin American economy, the region is considered to be one of the fastest growing commercial areas globally. Increased demand for coverage has seen local and international insurers advance in providing pioneering solutions.

At this IUA market briefing event, the speakers will discuss the current Latin American commercial climate highlighting the opportunities given by currency devaluation and high interest rates in addition to the importance of damage assessment and efficient reserve calculation.

Examples from previous cases will be examined and include the Argentina case and the differences between the former and actual civil code damage assessment system, deductibles enforceability, and financial lines: E&O and D&O. An explanation and benefits of reserve calculation will also be included.

He began his career before the Argentinean Courts, then progressed to a law firm specialising in insurance/civil liability and later spent 10 years as Claims Manager for ACE insurance company. He is a qualified lawyer and a Loss Adjuster before the Superintendencia de Seguros de la Nación (SSN).

Virginia Gallo, Actuary, Barbuss

Virginia Gallo has an actuary degree from the University of Buenos Aires. She began her career as a mathematical analysis professor, and worked for 15 years at General Re, in the areas of underwriting and claims of Civil Liability.
